A rule used to recall which way a wire
connected to a source of electricity will
move when near a magnet. The thumb and first
two fingers of the left hand are placed at
right angles to each other. If the first
finger is pointed in the direction of the
magnetic field (from the N to the S pole of
the magnet) and the second finger is pointed
in the direction of the electric current
(from the positive terminal to the negative
terminal of the electric source), the thumb
will point in the direction in which the wire
will move.
